Abstract: The realm of inverse scattering problems is to determine properties (position, shape, constitutive materials) of objects from the measurement of their response (scattered field) to an electromagnetic excitation. The application of electromagnetic inverse scattering problems covers optical imaging systems, sub-soil probing, civil engineering etc. These inverse problems are generally ill-posed and nonlinear. However, in the single scattering regime (under the Born approximation), the object is reconstructed thanks to a Fourier transformation of the measurement. When multiple scattering within the object occurs, the relation between the measurement and the object is no longer linear. The most popular strategies for solving the non-linear inverse problem is to reconstruct the permittivity iteratively. One key issue of this approach is the determination of the gradient of the minimized cost functional with respect to the permittivity distribution. This gradient can be derived from Lorentz’s reciprocity theorem. At the presentation, we will describe this derivation as well as the iterative scheme for solving the inverse problem.
