Universality and Phase Space Properties of the NS Critical Solution

Critical phenomena in gravitational collapse are the first physical phenomena discovered via numerical simulations. Recently, due to prospects in unraveling fundamental features within the theory of general relativity as well as its possible observability in nature, new interest has arisen in this direction. Here, I review some recent work done in understanding the properties of this threshold in the solution space of the Einstein field equations between the black hole and neutron star phases. By using
a set of neutron star-like initial data, I show here that we establish the universality of the neutron star critical solution. Via the study of phase spaces, we explore the structure and the boundary of the attraction basin of the neutron star critical solution and its transition to a known set of non-critical fi xed points.

Dr. Mew-Bing Wan will be joining Zhejiang University of Technology as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Anzhong Wang. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2009 in the field of numerical relativity under the supervision of Prof. Wai-Mo Suen. Since then, She have been doing postdoctoral research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics and Institute for Basic Science in South Korea.
