Title: Information content of quantum field theories
Abstract: The set of states of a quantum system can be thought of as a manifold with a shape, where distance
represents statistical distinguish ability. When information about the system is erased, such as by the imaginary
increase of an experimental resolution parameter, the manifold contracts and deforms. Some directions may become
so small that they can be neglected, leading to a simplified description of the system which is relevant to experiments.
This is a new take on the idea of Wilsonian renormalisation. When applied to many-body systems, this approach allows
in principle for the systematic derivation of an effective field theory, in a way which elucidates the nontrivial
operational connection between a QFT and the underlying system.
